Free Microchips with Spay/Neuter Surgery During May

Any pet that is spayed or neutered at the ACT Spay Neuter Clinic during the month of May will receive a free microchip at the time of surgery. Advance appointments are required. Rabies vaccines will be required if not current. Vaccinations and other services are available at regular low prices. This special cannot be combined with any other offers. Call the clinic at (813) 250-3900 to reserve an appointment, or visit www.actampa.org for additional information.

The clinic is located at:
1719 West Lemon St., Tampa
813-250-3900

Thousands of pets go missing each year. Emergency situations, like a car accident or hurricane can separate you from your four-legged friend, in a matter of seconds. A microchip provides a permanent form of identification that cannot be altered.

A microchip is a transponder with a unique number embedded. It’s about the size of a grain of rice. The microchip is inserted using a needle between the shoulder blades of a cat or dog, in a procedure similar to a vaccination. It takes just seconds. Once implanted, the microchip remains under the skin for the lifetime of the pet. The pet’s information is then entered into a national database. Many rescue groups, shelters and veterinarians across the country have scanners to access that information, in the event a pet is turned into their facility.

This low-cost gift will help ensure your pet is safely at "Home for the
Holidays"!

The Animal Coalition of Tampa (ACT) is offering a unique holiday gift this
December for the pet that has almost everything. Snip 'n Chip is a
combination of low-cost spay/neuter plus a microchip for permanent
identification. Pets that have these two procedures are protected and will
live a longer, healthier life.

So what exactly is Snip N' Chip? The "Snip" refers to spaying or neutering
the pet to prevent unwanted litters and provides other health benefits that
will lengthen a pet's life and improve some negative behaviors.

The "Chip" refers to implanting a microchip for permanent identification. A
microchip provides a lifetime form of identification that cannot be altered,
and the procedure is similar to a vaccination. It just takes seconds. .

So, if your pet has already been 'snipped', but you would still like to get
in on the 'chip', no sweat! Microchipping will be available for $20 from
ACT for this holiday season.

Microchipping is essential as hundreds of thousands of pets go missing each
year. Holidays can be a hectic time for pets, as guests come and go, and
holiday festivities take place. Also, year-round emergency situations, such
as a car accident or hurricane can separate you from your four-legged friend
in a matter of seconds.

Hillsborough County residents who qualify, the cost is merely $10 through

Thanksgiving and pets

The Thanksgiving holiday can be a hectic time for animals. Friends and
family coming in and out of the door means your pet could slip right
through. In addition to the heartache of wondering where your pet is and
if they are safe, not having your pet microchipped could add
more stress.

The Neuter Scooter makes it easier for you to get your pet spayed or
neutered, and
up-to-date on shots and micro-chipping. There are two more pick-up times
for November. Also, if you respond to treats like your Fido does, don't
forget about the complimentary Dunkin Donuts available at all pickup
locations!

Wednesday, November 22-Petco, 13127 N. Dale Mabry Hwy in Tampa

Tuesday, November 28-Gulley's Grocery, 3001 W. Reynolds in Plant City

Some other things to keep in mind during this holiday season to keep your
pet safe:

The following information came from www.tbo.com:

. Table scraps may look like a great thing to give to a dog, but they can
lead to an upset stomach vomiting, diarrhea, and even pancreatitis which
is a life threatening condition. Make sure your guests know the
consequences of feeding your pet extra snacks and scraps
. Keep aluminum foil, plastic wrap, plastic bags and wax paper away from
pets. These items can lead to accidental intestinal blockage.
. Any brittle or splintering bone can become lodged in your pet's
esophagus as well as puncture a hole in their intestines, so keep the
bones for wishing and not for snacking.
. Chocolate contains theobromine which can be hazardous to your
pets health. Bakers chocolate is the highest in theobromine and can cause
the most problems.
. As with any holiday, see that your pet has a safe haven to move
to...away from the festivities.
. Make sure that your pet has their identification tags on during any
parties and events. If your pet does slip out you can get them back
quickly. The Animal Coalition also offers low cost micro-chipping. See
www.actampa.org for more information.
